Symphony in the Schools is a music education outreach program developed specifically to provide our community’s students with a positive introduction to both the relevance and wonders of classical music and the influence it has on almost every other genre of music. The initiative serves LPSS's Arts Experience for All program, ensuring all students, pre-k through 5th grade receive in-school and off-campus arts-forward experiences. Additionally, ASO's After School Strings component supports LPSS's Strings program, ensuring that the program strengthens and grows throughout the Parish after several years of decline.
Students learn how to play a stringed instrument in group music lessons twice per week, after school, AT NO COST TO THEM! Students are provided with an instrument and case to use as their own throughout the school year.
A smaller ensemble of 16-22 musicians come to the school to perform for the students.
In partnership with LPSS, students have the opportunity to witness a full-symphonic orchestra (26-46 musicians) perform an engaging repertoire at the Heymann Performing Arts Center - AT NO COST TO THEM!
Students and their families are given FREE tickets to ASO's regular season and chamber series concerts.
